Love Comforts: A Poem

Love of my life

In a pandemic

Where are you now ?

Staring at my soul but not able to touch

Some days I feel close, other days so far away

Honey, I’m home

Longing for those words

Yet knowing you’re in your own space

Safe

I think of your skin, smell, and demeanor

On days when I wish you were here

I listen for your voice

When I wish you were near

As the idea fades, I imagine love comforting you

Comforting me

Just as I’m reminded it does

Not alone, even when you’re not home

Because love whispers to me

Everything I need

Is as real as my belief

And so I lay in the comfort of love

Until it picks me up again

To remind me

You’ll be home soon
